[Class 135] [Also in Group XXXII] A valve controlling the flow of a fluid under pressure comprises a rigid ported valve closure sleeve slidable axially in a cylindrical recess in a valve body, and one or a series of elastically deformed discs bearing on one end of the sleeve and on a fixed abutment on the body. As applied to a piston type hydraulic shockabsorber, the valve comprises a cylindrical head a, forming the closure head of the cylinder mounted within a recuperation chamber, and having a flanged stem e, ports f communicating with the cylinder, and ports b controlled by a non-return disc valve c for returning the liquid to the cylinder from the recuperation chamber. A rigid sleeve closure member g formed with a radial part h is subjected on its underside to the pressure in the cylinder and urged towards closure by elastically deformed metal discs k abutting the flange and the sleeve g. When the piston moves towards the valve, the pressure above the piston increases and on reaching a value to overcome the initial deformation of the discs, the sleeve g rises. to uncover the port h and allow liquid to enter the chamber. On the return stroke of the piston, if the pressure in the cylinder falls appreciably below that in the chamber, the disc valve c moves away from the ports b to increase the pressure in the former.
