Abstract

632,667. Drilling; mounting chucks. CASTELLINI, A. P. Nov. 7, 1946, No. 33102. [Class 83 (iii)] In a drilling-machine, the driving spindle 14 is coupled to the chuck 4 by a film of petroleum or like liquid interposed between their interengaging surfaces, the chuck being mounted on the spindle so as to be capable of relative axial and rotational movement. The hollow spindle 14 is driven by a friction roller 7 which is mounted directly on the shaft of an electric motor 8 and is moved to vary the spindle speed. A shaft 1, carrying a detachable weight 2, rests on the chuck to provide a feed pressure. The drill 4a is of very small diameter and is driven at high speed. A lifter arm 21 resiliently engages the chuck 4 and is raised or lowered by a cam 17. According to the Provisional Specification, the shaft 1 may be fixed to the chuck 4.
