A continuous record strip to be advanced intermittently past a recording position has a longitudinal series of configurations for engagement with a strip feeding device and an additional series of configurations adjacent the leading edge of successive forms for engagement with a device operating during starting of the advancing movement only. As shown in Fig. 1 longitudinal holes 3 used for the normal advancement of the strips 2 by pin wheels are supplemented by a pair of inwardly offset holes 5 adjacent to the leading edge of each form and which are engaged by supplementary feed means as described in Specification 625,945 at the initiation of the feed so that the strain on the strip at the moment of starting due to adhesion between the strips and their interleaved transfer sheets 6 is distributed over a greater area of the strip. The supplementary feeding means which engage the holes 5 also serve to align the record assembly since pins on the supplementary feeding means hold the sheets and the normal feed holes 3 from engagement with the normal advancing means until a hole 5 registers with its feed pin. The feeding hole 3 adjacent to the hole 5 may be omitted and a row of holes 5 extending transversely across the width of the sheets may be provided. Carbon papers and the like, arrangements of. A flat mounting 7 of cardboard, fibre or metal, holds the interleaved transfer sheets 6 in spaced formation on a series of space bars 8 which form slots therebetween for the passage of the record sheets. The mounting 7 has a series of holes 9 at each end for engagement with a stud on the machine described in Specification 625,945 so that the transfer sheets may be shifted a partial line space as they become worn. The transfer sheets have a cut away portion 10 to clear the feeding devices.
