951,062. Punching-machines. F. RUESCH. May 26, 1960 [July 10, 1959; Feb. 25, 1960], No. 18685/60. Heading B4B. A machine for punching articles from a web 30 comprises a body 17 disposed to roll on a stationary punching tool 21 while the web to be punched is stationary and disposed between the tool and the body, the axis 10 of the body being arranged at an acute angle to the axis 9 of the moving web. In the machine shown in Fig. 2, the roller 17 presses a double paper web against the spring-pressed punching tool 21 to punch cut-outs in a label web 2 adhered to a carrier web 1. The roller 17, which has a hardened steel strip covering 31, is driven by a shaft 13 by means of crank discs 14 and connecting rods 15 and has at its ends toothed rings 26 meshing with racks 27. The shaft 13 is coupled to the feed elements of a printing machine which advance the web intermittently. In a modification, Fig. 5, which is for punching complete cutouts in a single-layer web, the roller covering 31 is replaced by a plate 36 which supports the web and cut-outs therefrom, the plate being secured at one end to a support 37 and resting at the other end on a support 38. The makeready for compensating for inaccuracies of the punching tools can be effected either on the roller 17 or on the inner side of one of two plates replacing, and supported similarly to, the plate 36.
