Abstract

631,330. Supports for optical apparatus. LAWRENCE, N. Q., and PYE, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1946, No. 34571. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XL (b)] A television camera is rotatable about a horizontal axis on a support which also carries a seat for the operator, the axis of rotation of the camera passing approximately through the back of the neck of the operator as he looks into the camera viewfinder so that his eyes follow the movements thereof, means being provided to counterbalance the weight of the camera. As shown, the camera 1 is rotatable about a horizontal pivot 3 on a framework 4 carried by a platform 5 rotatable about a vertical axis by handwheel 12 and rack-and-pinion 13, 14 and carrying an adjustable seat 8 for the operator. The weight of the camera is counterbalanced by a spring 6 connected to an arm 7 of the camera. In operation the neck of the operator is located approximately at the axis of the pivot 3 so that as the elevation of the camera changes he merely bends his neck to maintain his eye at the viewfinder eyepiece 2. The whole may be mounted on a carriage 11.
