Abstract

631,273. Lampshades. PLEASANT, W. G. June 5, 1947, No. 14855. [Class 75(ii)] A lampshade is formed by clamping a sheet of flexible self-sustaining material 3 between two formers 1, 2, at least one of which is of dished form with its cavity mouth towards the sheet, so that the material is forced into the dished former and conforms to the shape thereof, the two formers being maintained pressed together. As shown in Figs. 1-3 the formers 1, 2 are of dished plate-like formation, corrugated in plan and arranged to fit one within the other, the formers being secured together and to a lampshade support 7 by means of a knob-headed screw 6 and a nut 8. Figs. 5, 6 show open frame-like rectangular dished formers 1, 2 having inclined walls 9 and bulged corner portions 10, arranged to be clamped together about a rectangular sheet of material 3 by means of knobheaded screws 12 engaging with screwthreaded bushes 13 secured to the inner former 2. As shown in Fig. 9 the formers 1, 2 may be held pressed together by means of spring tongues 15 projecting inwardly from former 1 through apertures in the material 3 and engaging apertures or notches 16 in the former 2. Alternatively the spring tongues may be formed on the inner former 2 and arranged to engage notches in the former 1 on being pressed therein. The formers may be moulded in plastic material and the inner former may have any suitable shape to fit within the outer former without necessarily conforming to the shape thereof.
