Abstract
630,826. Percussive tools. HIRSCHBERG, C. A. Nov. 4, 1947, No. 29396. Convention date, Sept. 8, 1944. '[Class 124] A collared steel is releasably retained and aligned in a percussive drill by a coupler body of cruciform shape supported for rotation about its transverse axis, the crossed arms having axial passages, one of sufficient diameter to pass the collar, the other passing the steel shank but not the collar, and adjacent arms in diagonally opposite sections having portions cut out to allow rotation of the body to dispose one or other of the passages in alignment with the steel. As shown, a collar 17 on a steel 13 may pass through a passage 30 in one arm of a cruciform coupler body 20, but not through another passage 31. Portions 32, 33 are cut from passages 30, 31 in diagonally opposite sections of the body so that it may be rotated by a handle 36 to dispose the passage 31 in alignment with the steel. The body 20 is supported' in bearings 22 attached to the tool body 10 by studs 23 and springs 28. The bearings may also house spring-operated detents 41 co-operating with flats 43 on trunnions 21 of the body 20 to retain the body in the desired position. The body 20 may be reversed in its bearings to equalize wear.
