Abstract

630,342. Yarn-twisting spindles. ARUNDEL, COULTHARD & CO., Ltd., and PILKINGTON, F. July 30, 1947, No. 20590. [Class 120 (ii)] In a yarn uptwister or like machine in which the spindles are of the swing type and are driven by an endless belt, means being provided for swinging each spindle clear of the driving belt and for braking the spindle, the spindle a is journalled in the bolster b carried in the swinging bracket c which can turn about a spindle d in the spindle rail bracket e against or with the pressure of the torsion spring f. A link g is pivoted at one end to a stud h secured in the bracket e and at the other end to one end of a lever j which is fulcrummed atk to the swinging bracket c. Beyond the fulcrum point a brake pad m is secured to the lever and a knob t is provided at the further end. In the operative position (Fig. 3) the link g and lever are folded over one another and spring f keeps the spindle wharve n in driving contact with the belt o. In the inoperative position (Figs. 2 and 4) the pivot p of the link g and lever j is pulled, by means of the knob t to a point slightly beyond a line joining the axes of hand k, so that the pressure of the torsion spring f acts to keep the link g and lever j in the open position and the brake pad m in contact with the spindle wharve n.
