Abstract
630,132. Valve amplifying circuits. JOHNSON, L. R. J., HOLLOWAY, D. G., and WHITE, E. L. C. May 17, 1946, No. 14911. [Class 40 (vi)] The distributed shunt capacity of an impedance in the negative feedback path of an amplifier is neutralized by applying an additional feedback voltage to a screen surrounding the impedance or to one or more different points on the impedance. The screen may be a resistance winding or a semi-conducting member. As shown, the output of a television transmitting tube 6 is fed to a four-stage amplifier 7, 8, 9, 10 across resistances R3, R4 which have distributed shunt capacity 2. Part of the output derived from the cathode follower 10 is fed back from a tapping on the load resistor 35 to the low potential end of resistance R4, while a portion of the feedback derived from potentiometer 38, 39 is applied via condenser 5 to the junction of resistances R3, R4. The resistance 39 may be shunted by a condenser 40 to compensate for phase shift in the feedback loop. The additional feedback may be applied to a screen surrounding the feedback impedance from one end to a point of substantially zero signal potential, at which point the screen is earthed, Fig. 1 (not shown).
