630,012. Vehicle wheels, LETOURNEAU, Inc., R. G. May 23, 1946. No. 15693. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1945. [Classes 144 (i) and 144 (ii)] A circumferentially-divided rim comprises a part 4 fixed to the wheel disc 1 and a detachable part 5 secured by a split ring 10 co-operating with a flange 7 in the part 5 and a grooved flange 6 projecting from the disc 1. The rim-parts are formed with inwardly-converging seats for the correspondingly-tapered bases 14 of the tyre-beads 13. As shown in Fig. 2, the facing edges of the rim-parts are slightly spaced in the position of use. For dismounting the tyre, the gap is closed by means of clamps 21, Fig. 3, assembled through slots 22 in the wheel-disc to exert thrust on the disc, and a ring 23 carried by, the rim-part 5; and the retaining-flange 16 on the detachable rim-part 5 is forced axially inwards, by means of set-screws 17, to free the outer tyre-bead. In this position (Fig. 4), the locking-ring 10 is prised out of the groove in the flange 6 by means of a lever 10 fulcrummed on a bar 20 bridging a slot 19 in the flange 6. To prevent circumferential creep, the rim-part 5 is fitted with lugs adapted to interengage lugs on the rim-part 4 and the tyre-retaining flange 16.
