Abstract

629,776. Hydraulic turbines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DERIAZ, P. Nov. 25, 1947, No. 31180. [Class 110(iii)] Emergency braking blades 1 on a hydraulic turbine runner are held within the runner periphery by segmental plates 3. The plates are interlocked at one end 3a and at the other end are held by trip-levers F which rotate clockwise when the runner speed is sufficient to cause the centrifugal force acting on the lever to overcome a spring S. Movement of a trip-lever frees the associated plate 3 and allows it to swing out of the way of the blade 1 which thereupon moves into operative position under centrifugal force. The movement of each plate 3 is limited by a ring 8 and pin 4. Frangible fastenings may be used in place of the trip-levers.
