Abstract
An axial pitch reaction hydraulic turbine in which hydraulic brake vanes are pivoted within a brake housing attached to the turbine rotor and spring means are provided within said brake housing which load said hydraulic brake vanes. into a retracted position whose spring means are overcome by the centrifugal force acting on said brake blades at a predetermined excessive speed and tilts them within the water flow, then said hydraulic brake blades producing a torque opposite to that produced by the rotor of the turbine and automatically retard said hydraulic brake vanes when the speed of the turbine has been reduced to a speed considerably below said excessive speed.
