629,623. Rolling. SOC. ANON. DES ACIERIES ET FORGES DE FIRMINY. Jan. 28, 1947, No. 2611. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1946. [Class 83 (iv)] A hydraulic pass-adjusting device for rolling-mills comprises roll - adjusting jacks, a relay connecting the jacks alternately with highpressure fluid mains and exhaust, a device for measuring the rolled strip and means actuated by the measuring-device for controlling the relay. A piston 11 moving within the body 10 of a relay alternatively takes up a position in which an armature 15 is attracted to an electromagnet 16, or, the electromagnet being unexcited, with the armature 15 resting on stops 17, under the action of a spring 18. In the first position, the adjusting-jacks of a rolling mill are placed into connection with a fluid source through channels 12, 13, in the other position the jacks discharge to exhaust through the channels 12, 14. The electromagnetic coil circuit is opened and closed by the operation of a thickness gauge so that the piston 11 oscillates between its two extreme positions, to maintain a mean pressure in the jacks. The jacks may be operated from medium pressure mains by the use of a hydraulic intensifier. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification wherein the electromagnet is operated by a device which measures the ratio of the input and output speeds of the mill. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
