628,968. Electrically - heated soldering irons. WELLER, R. H., WELLER, M. V., WELLER, C. E., WELLER, E. I., WELLER, E. C., and WELLER, 1. D., (trading as WELLER MANUFACTURING CO.). July 17, 1946, No. 21375. Convention date, May 22, 1946. [Class 39(iii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXXV] An electrically heated soldering iron comprises a casing 10 having a hollow body portion 10a in which is disposed a step-down transformer having a primary winding 20, an iron frame 30, and a pistol grip portion 10b in which is a switch 21 operated by a trigger 55, the secondary of the transformer being connected to two parallel tubular members, one of which is 44, which project forwardly from the top of the casing 10, and which are insulated from it. A hairpin-shaped loop 50 of copper wire, having a tinned extremity 50a, is shunted across the tubular members. The casing 10 is in two identical halves, each made of moulded rubber, or metal castings or stampings, having offset portions to accommodate the transformer 20 which is wider than the portion 10a, the offset parts having spaces top and bottom to allow the casing 10 to be ventilated, whilst further ventilating slots as at 29 are provided in the casing.
