Abstract
628,874. Knitting-machines. BLACKBURN & SONS, Ltd., G., START, H. W., and START, E. Sept. 4, 1945, No. 22677. [Class 74 (ii)] To give the thread carriers a constant lead over the slur cocks of a straight-bar machine and to decelerate the carriers at the end of each traverse, the thread carrier bar driving mechanism is operated by a slide 1 driven through rack and pinion mechanism 2, 3 which moves the slide relative to the slur cock draw mechanism at the end of each traverse. The rack 2 is provided on the slide 1 and the pinion 3, which is reciprocated bodily with the draw mechanism, supports an arm 6 carrying a cam follower 7. A stationary cam track 8 engages the follower 7 to rotate the pinion at the end of each traverse and thereby repositions the carrier bar relatively to the slur cock tie bar. The cam track may comprise two parallel slots 8a, 8b joined at their ends, a switch cam 9 at each end of the parallel portions preventing the cam follower from reversing its position at the beginning of a traverse. Alternatively, Fig. 5 (not shown), a single track may be provided in a plate that is raised or lowered at the end of each traverse to effect the necessary rotation of the pinion. The mechanism may be such that the rack drives the pinion.
