Abstract

628,680. Hand saws. PURNELL, E. W. Aug. 7,1947, No. 21614. [Class 61(ii)] A hack saw frame is adapted for cutting circular holes in sheet material, e.g. in water tanks, the blade being traversed in a circular path while the back of the frame acts as a centre guide. The back 1 of the frame is of circular section. The front arm 2 has a series of slots 15 at determined intervals, in any one of which the headed end of a saw blade or cutting file 12 may be. engaged. The rear arm 3 is flatted at 4 and receives a slide block 6 which can be secured in adjusted position along the arm by screwing up the handle 5, and carries a slotted and reversible blade holder 13 and tensioning nut 11. In use, a guide hole is drilled in the sheet of material at the centre of the circle which is to be cut out and a second, smaller hole at the desired radius. The back 1 and arm 2 of the saw frame are passed through the guide hole and a saw blade or file is passed through the other hole and engaged in the appropriate slot 15, its other end being engaged in the holder 13 with the block 6 adjusted appropriately. The frame is then reciprocated while the blade is turned gradually about the axis of the frame back.
