628,676. Locking rods and levers. GEMMER MANUFACTURING CO. July 28, 1947, No. 20327. Convention date, May 8, 1941. [Class 80 (iii)] In an irreversible locking device for steering gears, the driving worm B or other gear is sleeved on the steering spindle A and is surrounded by a fixed casing D including a non-revoluble rigid annular member G into which project segments J, K<1> on said gear and spindle respectively, segment J carrying in pockets L, spring pressed rollers M which lie between the segments. On operation of the spindle A, segment K<1> pushes one of the rollers M into the pocket L to effect rotation of the worm, leaving the other roller free, but on operation of the worm by road shocks or the like, one of the rollers M is forced into locking engagement with the fixed member G by a lip L<1> of the segment J.
