Abstract

560,469. Toothed wheels. ASPIN, F. M. Oct. 1, 1942, No. 13761. [Class 80 (i)] A gear wheel comprises a mair toothed portion 10, a second similarly toothed portion 12 adjacent thereto and rubber cushioning means 14 between them arranged to provide resilient relative angular displacement and pre-loading of the teeth, characterized by the feature that the rubber is secured to the wheel sections only by its end faces whereby it is stressed torsionally. The part 10 has a hub 11 to form a bearing for the part 12. Both parts are recessed to receive a rubber ring 14 which in cross-section is waisted. In place of a ring a number of recesses may accommodate plug-like portions of rubber. The rubber may be bonded to the gear sections 10, 12 or to shells or backing washers adapted to be secured to the parts. The rubber may be normally of such thickness that when the shells are secured, the gear parts are drawn together, or held slightly separated.
