628,675. Powder-blowing devices. ABBOTT LABORATORIES. July 25, 1947, No. 20164. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1945. [Class 81(ii)] A powder-blowing device, primarily for dental use, comprises a plug 2, to which a bulb 1 is attached, having a tubular extension 6, for receiving a cartridge 7 of powder, and a hollow needle 5 which pierces a stopper 9 in the lower end of the cartridge when this is placed into position. The cartridge has a cap 12 which is removed when the device is required for use. As the bulb is compressed the orifice 1a is closed by the thumb and air passes through the needle to the nozzle 8 carrying powder with it. It is proposed that previously sterilized glass cartridges should be filled with sterilised powdered sulfa preparation and powdered penicillin preparation and sealed until required for use.
