Abstract

Balloons of polyvinyl acetate are produced by first forming a viscous plastic mass with the aid of a volatile solvent, a lump of this mass being placed on the end of a tube and blown by passage of air or other gas down the tube to form a spherical film or balloon, the tube being removed by a twisting movement sealing the balloon. Suitable material comprises 65-75 per cent polyvinyl acetate and 35-25 per cent acetone. Other suitable solvents are alcohol and benzene. A wall of uniform thickness is obtained owing to the thinner portions losing the solvent more readily by evaporation, the thicker portions continuing to expand. Colouring matters and fillers may be incorporated in the composition. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the use of highly polymeric plastic substances which form viscous masses when treated with a solvent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
