Abstract
628,342. Moulding processes. DE HAVILLAND ENGINE CO., Ltd., HALFORD, F. B., CLARKE, K. W., and PAGET, G. W. June 25, 1947, No. 16784. [Class 83 (i)] In forming a mould, e.g. for casting wax patterns for use in casting turbine blades or other small parts, a pattern C is pressed partway into plastic material B on a support A, easily fusible metal is applied thereto to form a half-mould D, the support A and material B are removed and, if desired, locating projections are formed on, or recesses D<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, in, the surrounding face of the mould D. Then easily fusible metal is applied to the face of the pattern and mould D to form the second halfmould D<SP>2</SP>, a fusible metal negative E, Fig. 5, is made from each half-mould D, D<SP>2</SP> without pattern, the faces of these are electro-plated or otherwise coated with nickel, chromium, or other hard metal F, Fig. 9, a backing G of hard metal is sprayed on, and the fusible metal E is removed by melting to leave a two-part mould, Fig. 10. The fusible metal may be applied by spraying or casting into a frame A<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1. The backs of the negatives E may be coated with wax to prevent unwanted deposit of hard metal during electro-plating. The patterned surface of this deposit may be shot-blasted to ensure adhesion of the backing G. The base A may be made of glass or steel and B of the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Plasticine."
