[Class 30] In a safety razor having a guard member B, Figs. 2 and 3, and an end cap A forming together a blade-clamping head rigidly mounted on'the handle I, the guard member is of inverted channel form and co-operates with a plate O mounted between its side flanges to define a cavity into which hair and lather may pass through openings M in the guard member, the plate being pivoted so as to be movable to a position facilitating cleaning of the cavity. The plate O is pivoted on a hinge pin Q and frictionally held closed by projections R engaging holes or recesses in the guard member, or vice versa. The handle must be unscrewed from the stem E of the cap and removed before the plate can be swung open. The guard member is of wedge form in side elevation, with an included angle of between 5 degrees and 40 degrees, which results in a shearing cut. The edges of the cap A may have dependent lugs to shield the corners of the blade C. The upper face of the guard member preferably has a greater radius of curvature than the lower face of the end cap. The guard may be externally rounded at L, or rebated or bevelled. The cap, guard and handle may be of metal or plastic material, the threaded socket H for the stem E may be a metal insert moulded in the plastic handle, and the stem E and locating pins J may be moulded integrally with the plastic cap.
