Abstract

628,311. Treating gases with liquids. GLITSCH, H. C., and GLITSCH, F. W. July 4, 1947, No. 17737. Convention date, Jan. 28, 1939. [Class 55 (ii)] In a bubble tower each floor consists of a number of plate sections, frictionally secured by their edges to separate support members so that they may expand or contract without buckling. In one construction, a bubble tower 10, has a series of floors such as A, B, C preferably of thin stainless steel sheet. Each floor consists of a number of sections 20 which are supported under their edges by transversely-extending trusses T, each built from an inverted channel 13 connected by spaced members 15 to an angle 14 all of stainless steel. The ends of the trusses are secured to and are flush with a ring 11 welded around the inside of the tower 10. The floor sections 20 span the space between the trusses and are of such width as to leave a space between their adjoining longitudinal edges. They are frictionally secured to the trusses by a bolt 23 and washer 22 so that expansion movements can occur without the liquid seal between the truss and section being broken. The sections 20 are provided with lipped vapour openings 25, fitted with risers 27 and bubble caps 30 and downcomers 35 are provided in the smaller sections 20<SP>1</SP>. In an alternative construction of floor, floor B in Fig. 1, cross trusses T 2 , T 3 , extend from each side of a diametrically placed main truss T, to the ring 11.
