Abstract

627,973. Beams; composite structural members; ladders. ANDERSON, A. Jan. 31, 1946, No. 3195. [Classes 20(ii) and 20(iv)] A composite metal and wood beam &c. has a metal component comprising an integral sheet metal unit of I-formation, the cross members 20, Fig. 2, having deep flanges 20b to form open channels adapted to be filled by transverse insertion with lengths of wood 23 as the other components of the beam &c. The composite 'member may have projecting ends of the metal component flanged as at 26 for securing as a vertical frame member. Two composite members may be spaced side by side by a wooden member (or separate blocks) 46, Fig. 3, and may have a covering e.g. on three faces of wood, plaster board &c. 47. The composite member may function as a ladder side, Fig. 6, a wooden member 40 being secured to the metal web 22, to receive the ends of the rungs 39. Specification 628,032 is referred to.
