Abstract

The sulphonated condensation products described in Specification 627,919 are obtained from the same starting materials by simultaneous condensation and sulphonation; this is achieved by choosing condensing agents which will also act as sulphonating agents (e.g. sulphuric acid, chlorosulphonic acid) and adjusting the conditions so that both reactions occur together. The products may be used as wetting agents and ingredients for dye and perfume compositions. Examples are given of the process.ALSO:The wetting agents described in Specification 627,919 are obtained from the same starting materials by simultaneous condensation and sulphonation. Examples are given of typical materials.
