Abstract

627,882. Rack and pinion gearing. PAVITT'S (PRINTERS & BINDERS), Ltd., and HOLLIS, C. P. Jan. 13, 1947, No. 1127. [Class 80 (i)], Intermittent rotary movement is imparted to cylinders f of, for example, printing or recording apparatus by means of a rack b engaging with pinions g on the cylinders. The rack b is actuated in one direction of movement 2 by movement of a lever d about its pivot o engaging a pin or roller e on the rack to drive the pinions g. At the end of this movement a second arm d' on the lever d engages a pin m which results in a lifting movement of a guiding frame c for the rack to effect disengagement from the pinions g. To allow for this lifting movement the frame c is carried on two crank arms i and the pivot o of the lever d is carried on the frame c. The rack b is returned on an idle stroke by a spring k when the lever d moves sufficiently to disengage from pin e, and frame c and crank arms i are returned by a spring j on a return movement of lever d to a position for a repeat operation.
