627,673. Optical systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 21989. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1940. [Class 97 (i)] In objectives comprising a spherical mirror 11 and a plate 12 correcting for spherical aberration, and used for projecting from a cathoderay tube 10, kinematograph film &c., in a position such that the spherical mirror faces the screen of the cathode-ray tube &c., the central portion of the surface of the mirror is rendered non-reflecting with the object of improving contrast in the projected image. The central area is not substantially less than that of the projection of the screen by lines parallel to the optical axis, and may, as shown, equal the area of the projection by lines radiating from the centre of curvature of the mirror; it may have a mask 16 applied to it, may be painted dead black, may be left unsilvered, or may be cut away.
