Abstract

627,384. Mixing appliances. STERN, C. A. Aug. 1, 1947, No. 21034. [Class 86] A steam-jacketed vessel tilting to discharge is provided with a stirrer which is mounted on an inclined shaft passing through the lower portion of the vessel wall and supported by a bearing outside of and secured to the vessel wall. A spherical vessel 1 provided with a steam jacket 5 is pivotally mounted on trunnions 7 in supporting pillars 8. Steam is admitted to the jacket 5 through the trunnions 7. A stirrer having two arcuate blades 10 is mounted on a shaft 11 passing through the lower portion of the vessel wall and carried in a bearing 12 and oscillated by bevel gears 13, 14. A hand-wheel 9 and gears, not shown, operate to tilt the vessel for discharging. This movement also disconnects the bevel wheel 13 from the bevel wheel 14 and stops the drive of the stirrer. Instead of bevel wheels 13, 14, a friction drive may be substituted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 627,420.
