Abstract

627,313. Forecarriage arrangements; spring suspensions. ANDERSEN, S. A. Oct. 3, 1946, No. 29576. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 4, 1947.] [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a forecarriage having approximately the same width as the vehicle body 1, Fig. 2, and which comprises a turntable 2 fully rotatable about a king-pin 3, and an axle 8 rotatable in a vertical plane about a pivot pin 6, rigid supporting means 4 are provided between points on the periphery of the turntable and the pivot joint, or points adjacent thereto. The pin 6 is carried in a bearing 5, rigidly connected to the turntable 2 by the stays 4, elliptic springs 10 being provided between the axle and turntable. In a modification, Fig. 5, the king-pin is formed with a downward extension 13 which passes through a tubular member 16 secured by braces 17 to the turntable; this extension ends in a ball 14 which is received in a spherical bearing 15 on the axle 8, rotation of the latter in a horizontal plane relative to the turntable being prevented by a tongue and groove arrangement 18. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also an arrangement in which the king-pin is formed hollow and houses the drive-shaft and, in one construction, the differential gear. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
