Abstract
627,068. Electrostatic precipitation. WHESSOE, Ltd., and PUTTICK, A. Jan. 9, 1947, No. 779. [Class 39 (i)] In an electrostatic precipitator of the two-field type having a parallel plate type precipitating zone, discharging electrodes are provided in the precipitating zone at or adjacent the edges of the high-tension plates of that zone, which extend in the direction of gas flow, to reduce the loss of precipitating efficiency at the edges of the zone. The discharging electrodes 9a, Fig. 3, adjacent to the edges of precipitating plates 10a, are extensions of the discharge electrodes 9 of the ionizing zones. The earthed plates 8 form internal partitions of the earthed casing 5. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the discharge in the precipitating zone is effected by forming serrated edges on the precipitating plates which may be plane or corrugated, and any plates which do not form part of the outer casing of the precipitator may be formed of mesh or by a series of strips or rods.
