Abstract

627,051. 'Sheet-cutting machines. HART, J., and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. May 8, 1946, No. 13942. [Class 87 (ii)] A machine for cutting biscuits from a continuously moving sheet of dough of the kind having cutters 7 carried on a cutter bar 8 reciprocating in a vertical direction in guides 2 on a cutting head 1 which itself reciprocates horizontally on upstanding links 5 pivoted at 4 and 5a to the cutting head and machine frame respectively, has the pairs of links 5 at each side of the machine converging upwardly. This introduces a rocking motion into the movement of the cutting head which oscillates about an instantaneous axis passing through the points of intersection of the pairs of links 5. This axis may lie above the uppermost position of the cutter bar or within the vertical limits of travel of the cutter bar and preferably within the central zone of this travel. The horizontal amplitude of the reciprocations of the cutter bar are thus substantially reduced, reducing wear and tear on the machine. The cutter bar 8 is reciprocated vertically by links 10 from eccentrics 9 and the cutter head horizontally by links 14, 15, 16 from a crank pin 13 on a driven shaft 11.
