Abstract

690,262. Cutting glass. UNION DES VERRERIES MECANIQUES BELGES SOC. ANON. July 16, 1951 [Sept. 5, 1950], No. 16826/51. Class 56. Relates to an apparatus for transversely cutting glass sheet 3 leaving a vertical drawing machine 1 wherein the frame 7, 12 across which the carriage 4 carrying the cutter 30 is horizontally reciprocated is raised, during the scoring by the engagement of a pivoted member 13 carried thereon with the leading edge of the rising sheet; the frame being returned by gravity to its starting point, with the cutter out of contact with the glass, in readiness for a new score. The movement of the carriage is controlled by a reversible motor 18 automatically switched out at the end of each half of the reciprocations of the carriage, the cut being traced alternately in opposite directions. Means are provided for guiding and stiffening the upper edge of the sheet along a constant vertical plane until the cut has been completed, and the sheet is automatically gripped and bent and the section cracked off after the cat has been made.
