Abstract
626,955. Propellent explosives. GORDON, S., WHITWORTH, E., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1946, No. 37514. [Class 9 (ii)] A process for the production of a granular smokeless propellant of porous structure in disc or flake form from colloided nitrocellulose composition laden with a finely divided watersoluble crystalline ingredient comprises the steps of forming grains of disc or flake form, each having at least one space extending through its whole thickness, e.g. one or more radial slots or a central perforation with or without one or more radial slots, and rendering the grains porous by leaching out the crystalline ingredient with water. A suitable composition is 100 parts colloided nitrocellulose (13.25 per cent nitrogen) 1.1 parts diphenylamine, 45-50 parts potassium nitrate. Specification 568,721 is referred to.
