Abstract

626,585. Pyrophoric lighters. LEVENE, M. M. July 16, 1947, No. 19003. [Class . 75(iii)] The flint of a pyrophoric lighter is moved through an angle each time the lighter is operated; this prevents grooving of the flint. As shown Fig. 1, a flint wheel 5 of cylindrical form and a thumb wheel 7 are fixed on a tubular shaft 6 rotatable around a rod 10 fixed in the casing, there being a pin 8 mounted on the thumb wheel 7 or projecting from the shaft 6 to rotate the flint holder 2 by engaging teeth on an end wheel 9. The flint proper is shaped so as necessarily to rotate with the flint holder. In a modification Fig. 3, the flint holder has a ratchet wheel 9 operated by a pawl 22 on the lighter cover 21 each time the latter is opened. A detent 24 prevents backward movement of the ratchet wheel.
