Abstract
626,184. Hypodermic injectors; ampoules. JOHNSEN & JORGENSEN FLINT GLASS, Ltd. June 12, 1947, No. 15495. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1946. [Class 81(i) and 81(ii)] Two or more sealed glass vessels adapted to be opened, or to communicate with each other, by breaking, have their breaking points arranged in overlapping relation within a resilient envelope. In one form a container 5 holds fluid to be injected, under pressure, and has a stem 6 with a pre-formed breaking point 9. A needle 13 is fused into a glass tube 8 which has a similar breaking point 9. Both points 9 are enclosed in a rubber member 1 having a communicating chamber 4. When the instrument is required for use the needle is exposed, by breaking off the glass stem 13, and the stems 6, 8 are broken at the points 9 by pressure on the rubber envelope 1. The rate of flow can be controlled by constricting the chamber 4 by finger pressure. In a modification, (see Fig. 5, not shown), two ampoules are arranged to communicate with the same needle. The invention may be used with evacuated ampoules for withdrawing blood &c. The necks of the ampoules may be tapered so that both can be enclosed within a tubular flexible member (see Fig. 7 not shown). Specification 625,208 is referred to.
