Abstract

626,067. Mixing apparatus. LIST, H. Aug. 19, 1946, No. 24641. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1945. [Class 86] A continuously-operated kneader and mixer comprises a worm member 1 rotatable in a casing 2 which is reciprocable relatively to the worm member whereby a portion of the mass already mixed is returned into the less mixed mass. A cylindrical worm is provided with an interrupted thread and rotates within an axially-reciprocated cylindrical casing having a plurality of tooth-like projections 5 on its inner wall, the speed of rotation of the worm and of reciprocation of the projections 5 being such that the latter repeatedly pass through the gaps in the worm thread. The casing 2 may be given in addition, a slight rocking movement. The last couple of turns of the worm thread at the end adjacent the exit port 4 have no gaps. In a modification, Fig. 4, a conical press worm and casing both of cc ncave form are provided, the casing 2 being given an axially-reciprocating motion to increase the pressure difference between the turns of the worm thread, a portion of the mass to be kneaded thus being pushed back through the space between the worm and casing when the latter is moved to the left. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 described also a construction in which the fixed casing of a conical worm has by-pass channels through which material is forced back into the mass by the pressure of the worm. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
