A mixing and kneading apparatus Fig. 1, comprises a conical container 1, a shaft 3 rotatable about its axis 4 and having a conical motion about the axis 5 of the container, the shaft having a discontinuous screw thread or threads thereon to form blades 2, the lengths of which increase in such a way that the distance 6 between the blade tips and the wall 7 of the container remains constant. In another embodiment stationary shovel-like agitating members are provided on the container wall between the blades 2.
