[Classes 20(iii) and 20(iv)] A cavity wall comprises base and upper beams each of two parallel spaced concrete elements having on their inner faces steps engaged by vertical posts, also of two spaced concrete elements held apart by ties, the posts being spaced longitudinally of the wall by spaced concrete horizontals recessed at their ends to engage the posts and grooved longitudinally to receive the tongued edges of concrete wall slabs filling the spaces at least on the outer wall surface, an inner wall leaf being attached to the horizontals. As shown, the recesses 2, 9 in the double reinforced concrete beams 1, 8 are engaged by the ends of double posts 3, the two halves of which are connected by ties 4; longitudinal members 5, 10, 12, of shallow H-form or each comprising two similar H- or T-form halves connected by ties 6, extend between the posts, the inner halves resting on shelves 14 thereon; slabs 15 whose tongues 16 engage recesses in the members 5, 10, 12 complete the external surface (and may also be provided on the internal surface) while an inner wall-leaf 13a is nailed to wood inserts 13. The upper longitudinal members 10 may have flanges 11 which engage the recesses 9 in the beam 8, and may be spigoted into the latter with vertical play (to allow the slabs 15 to be positioned), the spaces 8a on either side being subsequently filled, e.g., with cement. Window and door lintels, sills and jambs are also described, each comprising two halves connected by ties similar to those shown at 4 and 6; the lintels have flanges which project upwardly between the halv.es of members 12 immediately above them, while the jambs, and lintel and sill ends, are grooved to receive the ends of the slabs 15 and members 12; door jambs have tongues at their lower ends which engage the recesses 2. According to the Provisional Specifications the posts 3 of the above construction are arranged in spaced relation with steel, reinforced concrete, &c. uprights of a main frame.
