Abstract

Walls.-A slab building with hollow walls is formed with the foundation blocks 1 channeled to receive rods 8, and a beam 10 is cast thereon between the first course of wall slabs to lock the pillars and slabs to the foundation. The bars in the beam project through openings 5 in the pillars. The inner wall slabs bear on the beam and the outer wall slabs bear on the bottom course. Aligned holes 11, 13, 15 in the pillars and floor beams receive a rod 14, and concrete is filled in through a lateral hole 17 to form a tenon. In a modification, the upper pillars are stepped from the lower ones and the tenon is right-angled. Roof trusses are secured to the pillars by shoes 20 clamped and bolted to the pillars, and having upstanding wings 22 secured by bolts in slots in the timbers. Door and window frames are secured by bent iron strips 25 lodged in the slab joints and with. the upturned ends slidden into cheeks on a fitting 27 on the frame.
