Abstract

625,768. Making pulleys. SPUN STEEL CORPORATION. March 12, 1947, No. 6918. Convention date, June 29, 1946. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Stamping.-In a method of making a V- groove pulley an annular V-groove is roller spun in the flange 12 of a sheet metal blank 8 and portions of the V-groove are collapsed to form a narrow sub-groove 25 at the base of the V. The sub-groove 25 is of the order of 0.05 inches in width, approximating to the thickness of the sheet metal used. For the pressing operation, the spun blank is placed in a stationary die 19, Fig. 6, and shaped by an upper die 20 and by radially closing die segments 21 which have the form of the required groove.
