Abstract

625,759. Chucks. DUBIED & CIE SOC. ANON., E. Feb. 14, 1947, No. 4264. Convention date, April 4, 1946. [Class 83 (iii)] A lathe driver or chuck has at least two jaws clamped independently on the work by combined centrifugal force, spring pressure and machining resistance, and a rotatable ring is provided for opening the jaws manually. The chuck casing, comprising three parts 1, 2. and 3, is mounted on a lathe spindle W having a centre S, am' each jaw 6 is screwed on a pivot pin 8 having a fly weight 7 and, after adjustment for initial setting, is locked to the pin by a screw 9. Flat springs 10 acting on the fly weights maintain the jaws on the workpiece P when the chuck is not rotating, but by rotating a ring 12 in the direction of chuck rotation, pins 13 engage the fly weights and open the jaws.
