Abstract
Caffein is removed from an aqueous extract of roasted coffee by bringing it into liquid-liquid contact with a caffein solvent; the extract is afterwards dried. In the process described, ground roasted coffee is extracted with hot water, preferably at or near boiling point. The resultant extract, after being cooled to about 160 DEG F., is passed upwardly through a packed vertical column in contact with the downwardly descending solvent, which may be trichlorethylene. The extract is finally dried to a powder, as by means of a spray-drier. Specification 625,365 is referred to.
