Abstract
625,265. Thermionic power converters. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. July 2, 1946, No. 19711. Convention date, July 2, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] A device for supplying rectified electrical power at high potential from a low potential high-frequency source comprises an evacuated casing enclosing a tuned transmission line and a rectifier, the casing forming one conductor of the transmission line and a cathode being connected to one end of the other conductor. In Fig. 1, an oscillator is inductively coupled to the loop 30 which is connected through a vacuum-tight seal 24 to the conductor 12. The hollow conductors 12 and 13, together with the annular casing 10 form quarter wave lines, short-circuited at A. The other ends of the lines terminate in the thermionic cathodes 14, 16 on either side of the anode 34. The heating current for the filaments may be supplied by wires running through the centre of the conductors 12, 13, as shown by the dotted line. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the casing is cylindrical and the conductors 12, 13 form a U-shape, the base of the U corresponding to point A.
