Abstract

624,895. Couplings. DELAWARE ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Feb. 13, 1947, No. 4147. Convention date, March 9, 1946. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XI] An adjustable electrode clamp for an electric furnace comprises a flexible clamp 8 surrounding and supporting electrically conductive shoes 2, to which are connected flexible electrically conductive pipes 15 for cooling water for the hollow shoes and for suspending the shoes and clamp on the electrode. The pipes 15 are suspended from annular bus-pipes 17, 18 supplied at 34 with cooling water. Split bolted clamps 21 support the pipes 15 to which water passes by pipes 26 from the bus-bars, which are encircled by loops 31 of non-magnetic materials supported from above by a hoist. Fins 27 on the bus-rings carry a non-magnetic loop 33a supported from above. The shoes have a serrated face for engaging the electrode and internal baffle plates 4 and have at the rear flanges 6 fitting against the links of a flexible chain 8 with hinged links tightened about the electrode by bolts 13. The links are of austenitic or non-magnetic steel. The pipes 15 are threaded into and welded to flanges 3a on the shoes and are readily removable from the clamps 22.
