624,794. Lighting burners. WHEELCO INSTRUMENTS CO. Feb. 20, 1947, No. 4979. Convention date, April 17, 1940. [Classes 75(i) and 75(iii)] In a burner having spark ignition means and provided with a safety control device including a flame electrode situated in the flame path of the burner and forming part of a control circuit operable in accordance with the presence or absence of a burner flame, a screen 17 is provided between the sparking electrodes 5, 7 and the flame electrode 20 for earthing ions generated by the ignition. The electrode 5 is in the form of a cap on the burner tube 1 through which gaseous fuel is passed via an inlet tube 3, and the electrode 7 is supported by a rod 7a mounted in an insulated sleeve 9. The screen 17 is cup-shaped and provided either with a flame orifice 16 of cross form or with a plurality of orifices formed by mesh or a perforated plate.
