Abstract

624,217. Making knobs. PARKES & SONS, Ltd., J., FRYER, E. C., and ORDIDGE, E. F. June 16, 1947, No. 15754. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Jointing by stamping and spinning.-In a method of making a hollow metal door knob the parts are electroplated after making a fluid-tight assembly so that the electrolyte does not reach the internal surfaces and cause subsequent corrosion. The outer cast or pressed part A has its flange f spun or pressed over the rib b on the cast or moulded part B to form a fluid-tight joint. The part B has a thin diaphragm E closing the usual hole D in the shank and completely sealing the knob. After electroplating the diaphragm E is sheared away by the normal square shank or by a tool. Relative rotation of the two parts A and B may be prevented by forming a projection G on the part B which engages a slot f<SP>1</SP> in part A.
