Abstract

A process for the production of steel of high quality, characterized in that a steel is prepared in the usual manner in an acid furnace and when it is deoxidized and ready for casting, it is poured into a receptacle into which is simultaneously poured a basic slag, and the said slag is allowed to accomplish its normal function of a slag on the bath of the molten steel which, in addition to the characteristics due to its being manufactured in an acid furnace, acquires the characteristics of steels manufactured in a basic furnace. The basic slag may contain deoxidizing elements or such elements as are to enter into the final composition of the steel.
