[Class 36] Apparatus for assembling discs on the core of a concentric conductor cable comprises a base member having a reciprocating member movable thereon in a direction parallel to the continuously advancing core, a member movable with respect to said reciprocating member for receiving and assembling discs on the core at spaced intervals, a cam follower on said assembly member and an engaging cam on the case member for actuating the disc assembly member to place the discs on the core. A base-plate 15 carries bars 16 on which is mounted a slide plate 18 between guide rollers 17. The plate 18 is continuously reciprocated by a rectilinearly guided link 22 connected with a cam device (not shown). In operation the-plate 18 is first moved to the right in timed relation to the advance of the conductors 26. Plungers 36, 37 which are mounted on the plate 18 then move inwardly from opposite sides of the conductor 26 as pins 58 move along cam faces 56 of fixed members 55. A slotted disc 27 is carried by each plunger 36, 37 in pockets 46, with the open end facing the conductor 26, the discs being positioned on the conductor at the termination of the inward movement of the plungers 36, 37. The pins 58 then ride off the cam faces 56 and along and off the side faces 57 of the fixed members 55, whereupon tension springs 59 draw the plungers 36, 37 outwardly, the pins 58 moving freely along the upper faces of the members 55. Outward movement of the plungers 36, 37 is limited by pins 60 engaging the inner faces of the guide members 33. The slide plate 18 then moves back to the left, causing the pins 58 to ride on the inclined cam faces 63 (Fig. 2) and thence on to the upper end faces of members 55, rocking them counterclockwise about pivots 52. When the plate 18 reaches the extreme left position, the pins 58 ride off the upper faces of members 55 which are returned to the position shown by the action of springs 62. Another disc is then fed to each of the pockets 46 by means of a weight 50 mounted on the upper end of the disc supply means 38, 39. The operation is then repeated. An outer conductor may be formed about the core carrying the discs during the advance of the core.
