[Class 36] Apparatus for assembling radiallyslotted discs 24 on a conductor 25 comprises a feed wheel 18, around a substantial portion of the periphery of which the conductor 25 is guided, and which is provided with notches 23 spaced around the periphery, discs 24 being supplied to the notches at two points on the feed wheel 18, the first point being where the feed wheel is hot engaged by the conductor 25, the second point being where it is en. gaged by the conductor, the conductor being pressed into engagement with the discs supplied at the first point, and the discs supplied at the second point being subsequently pressed into engagement with the conductor. At each side of the wheel 18 are stationary supply devices 30, 31 for the discs 24, the lowest disc of each stack resting on a support 36 which also carries a plunger 38 fixed to a slide 39 which moves in a slot 40 in the main plate 15 of the apparatus. The portion of the slide 39 protruding through to the back of the plate 15 is fixed to an actuating member 43, slidably mounted on the reverse side of the plate 15. Also mounted on the reverse side of the plate 15 and on the same axis as the wheel 18 is a cam disc 19 provided with lobes 22, there being half as many lobes 22 on this disc as there are slots 23 on the wheel 18. The discs 18, 19 rotate in the direction indicated, the member 43 following the cam lobes 22 by the action of a spring 47. This operates the plunger 38, which pushes the lowest disc 24 into the adjacent notch 23, with its slot 26 facing outwardly. Alternate notches 23 are fitted in this way, a suitably shaped plate 53 holding the discs 24 in position until they come into contact with the conductor 25, the conductor being pressed into a groove 29 in the disc 18, and thus into engagement with the slots 26 by means of a presser plate 51. The conductor, with alternate discs 24 applied, and held in position by shoulders 52 in the slots 26, then passes to the second supply device 30, where intermediate discs are applied in a similar manner to that already described with regard to the supply device 31, the slots 26 this time facing inwardly. A suitably shaped plate 57 presses these discs on to the conductor. In the final assembly adjacent discs thus have their slots diametrically opposite one another, Fig. 9 ; an outer conductor may then be applied.
