Abstract

623,365. Dielectric heating. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 16, 1945, No. 6667. Convention date, March 17, 1944. [Class 39(iii)] Apparatus for heating thin strip or thread of dielectric material, comprises two electrodes 10, 11, having annular passages 12 with tubular projections for concentrating the electrostatic field along the axis of the thread or strip. In the example shown thread is wound from a reel 20 to a reel 21 passing through an impregnating bath 22a and electrodes 10, 11 to which a scource of high frequency voltage of approximately 2,500 volts and 40 megacycle frequency is applied. An alternative form of electrode for heating strip material may have an elongated slot in place of the annular passage, a plurality of annular passages in each electrode may also be employed.
